My project "The soul of a Robot".

Will there ever be enough similarity to us in our humanoid robots that we will decide to treat them in the same moral ways we treat humans?
POT'S internal emotions are a complex interplay of many subprograms. Her actuators are all faked and her smile is forced, but the human actuators are of the same type. We are very good in faking too.

Why should POT'S behavior be inferior to ours? In either case behavior is a process of development and evolution.

My project "The soul of a Robot".

I've asked Detdigit to help me with the Polls for my project: POT LOOKING FOR TRUE LOVE. I'll have to spend all my time in evolving the project.
I hope you're interested answering the questions. POT will be grateful to you.

I'll publish the results regular.

My project "The soul of a Robot".

POT:A ROBOT LOOKING FOR TRUE LOVE.
SOME FIRST IDEAS.

Selection criteria for her candidates:
1. Is it important for you Pot can walk smoothly on two feet?
2. What do you think about her size? Do you prefer her to be a little bit smaller than we human beings are, the same size or even taller. Why?
3. Must her body be humanoid: Do you prefer a design close to human forms or a more "spaceman" feel.
4. She will never be tired listening to your complaints. Do you want her to be your counselor day and night.
5. Will she have to be your entertainer or your slave.
6. Have you a particular sensibility for humans that resemble you or do you prefer quite a new appearance? Tell me.
7. What is most important: she collects information for you or she thoroughly enjoys you?

I would appreciate if you will help me to ask her candidates the right questions. So do you have any suggestion for criteria please let me know. I'll be grateful to you and perhaps you are interested to take part in the project later on. I'll have to work hard to make the project work.

My project "The soul of a Robot".

A ROBOT LOOKING FOR TRUE LOVE. IS IT RIDICULOUS?

I'm setting up a database of human beings to help POT to spot her perfect friend.

Everyone who is interested to make a chance becoming POT's favourite can take part in the project. Your data will be linked with a number and of course the link is secret.
I'll tell you more about the project as soon as possible. I hope you're interested.

THE SOUL OF ROBOTS.

I moved to Canada starting a study about "The soul of robots". I got my robot POT down from the attic and took her with me. I reinstalled the batteries and she was acting like years ago.
It made me think.
I'm changed last years, my skin has grown older and my brains have become smarter. POT is still the same.

I'll use all my intelligence AND creativity to develop her possibilities. She will have to work hard to become as smart as I'm.

First I teach her to trim every morning. We make a daily six-minute walk around the house. She understands to follow me, but when I speed up my step, she panics. Every minute I turn round and wave to her to make her clear I'm not forgotten she is there. Then she quickens her pace to show me she is doing her best.

MY FIRST DAY WITH POT

That morning my father called me in. We have a surprise for you, he said. It's at my office now, but you will have it tomorrow after all the tests are over. I thought I'd tell you now already so you can make up a name for your playmate. He will be your best friend and he will do everything you want him to do. He understands you and he will learn to imitate you.
What is the difference between my fleshy friend next-door and my new playmate, I asked.
He will always love you and say nice things.
How do you know.
That's how I programmed him.
He will act naughty when he imitates me, I said.
It's up to you, how you treat him.
The next day POT arrived. There was one thing I was sure, he wasn't a boy, she was a girl and I liked her.

ROBOTS with BRAINS.

As a child robots obsessed me. My favorite was POT, a Korean word for friend. I danced with her, let her walk by clapping my hands and talked to her. She always answered my questions, but when I neglected her, OH MIO MY, she was furious.
Now I'm a grown woman robots still make my heart beat faster thanks to Asimov. I read most of his stories. His creatures have brains, have dreams. His robots are machines made by engineers, who build them with inherent safeguards. The first Robot Law was "Don't harm human beings."

Science fiction is more than science. It's also storytelling. When the science in it is long out of date, the stories remain enjoyable, at least Asimov's novels do.

Science does advance. My new robot POT-TWO will fantasize. I hope she will have complete unexpected possibilities.

CUT OFF FROM MY FAMILY.

After my youth in a comfortable gray neighborhood in Seoul, Canada seemed an inviting bright and white country. After years of unlimited obedient to my parents I wanted to be free, young and careless.
One day I whispered with my smallest voice and my eye down: ' I want to leave the house and live on my own.'
My parents sensed the blighted hope in my eyes. 'Is this we have to listen to?' they said and gave me an ultimatum. I could either study hard and they would pay for my education, or I could say farewell and be cut off from my family forever.
I decided to quit hoping to see myself most clearly without others in the mix.

THE CONFUCIAN LAW.

We left South Korea to strengthen the economy of our country and raise our personal standard of living. I was not happy leaving my friends, but in Korea you trust, accept, and obey the word of elders.

It is the Confusion Law, they say. One should be loyal to one's family, friends and rulers and treat others as one would like to be treated.

My parents drummed it into me: 'Just listen and obey; that is your simple duty.'

MY PARENTS.

My father worked ten hours a day, six days a week with short or non-existent holidays.
He simply refused to fail, leaving absolutely nothing to luck or chance. I couldn't understand
why he tried so hard, why he was so competitive. The well-planned response to life's uncertainties and complications determined my childhood.

And my mother? Her stories were always fairy tales with bad endings.
